Pune-based Vidya Valley School has partnered with Build-Up Internships to integrate mentored internships into its academic programme, becoming one of the first schools in India to formally offer credited, work-based learning to students. The initiative begins with rising 9th graders and is designed for future expansion across grades.
This pioneering move redefines career exploration, aligning with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on experiential learning. Build-Up’s model includes industry workshops, real-world projects, and one-on-one mentoring, culminating in students presenting their solutions to company leaders. Each participant earns academic credit, recognising both effort and learning outcomes.
The programme, already piloted with 112 students over two summer cohorts, has received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Students worked with 13 companies across more than 30 industries, participating in over 150 hours of immersive learning and 90+ mentor interactions.
“It’s not just about upskilling—it’s about giving students meaningful exposure so they can make informed choices,” said Arya Diwase, CEO of Build-Up. Ipsita Rodricks, director at Vidya Valley, added, “Skill-based learning is a hallmark of our school. This programme empowers students to face their futures with purpose.”
With support from companies such as Sajag Securities, the programme has been praised for its innovative approach and its ability to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.
Build-Up Internships, founded by alumni of Stanford, Duke, LSE, and NYU, continues to champion guided, reflective internships that equip young learners with critical skills for global success. Vidya Valley School’s initiative sets a benchmark for forward-thinking education across India.
