Apple Ceo Tim Cook has been named chairman of the business school advisory board at a Chinese university, which is attended by senior politicians in the country. The Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management (SEM) announcement this on Saturday but did not specify when Cook assumed the role. 

Chinese President Xi Jinping is also among the top politicians who attended Tsinghua. The university is sometimes dubbed as “China’s Harvard”. The advisory board to Tsinghua’s SEM school includes the head of the school, businessmen and senior government officials. 

Cook met with the head of China’s market regulator last week. this happened a week after Apple was caught in the middle of ongoing political tension between the mainland and protesters in Hong Kong.

Cook has been a member of the board since 2013 but now takes over as the chairman from Breyer Capital founder and CEO Jim Breyer. He will serve a three-year term as the board’s chairman.
