During a ceremony attended by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, 102 individuals were appointed as assistant professors within the Odisha Medical Education Service. These newly appointed professionals are set to join state-run medical colleges located across various districts.

Addressing the assistant professors, Patnaik emphasized the importance of their role, highlighting the need for unwavering commitment and a compassionate approach towards patients and their families. He also mentioned the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure for the well-being of the public under the vision of “Sustha Odisha, Sukhi Odisha” (Healthy Odisha, Happy Odisha).

Patnaik highlighted the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), which covers the entire cost of health services for everyone at state government hospitals, stressing the government’s responsibility to ensure top-quality care in government medical college hospitals.

Over the past six years, Odisha has established eight medical colleges and two postgraduate medical institutes. Niranjan Pujari, the Health and Family Welfare Minister, noted the state’s progress in producing doctors and specialists, moving from 321 MBBS doctors and 254 specialists annually in 2000 to 2,525 MBBS doctors and 856 specialists each year now. This advancement signifies Odisha’s journey towards self-sufficiency in meeting the healthcare demands for doctors and specialized professionals.
