Rajasthan education minister Govind Singh Dotasra said that male teachers below the age of 50 years will be removed from all government girls’ schools. The step is being taken in a bid to keep a check on eve-teasing cases in schools. The number of harassment cases involving male teachers have seen a rise in the state.

Speaking to reporters in Mandawa in Jhunjhunu district, Dotasra confirmed that female teachers would be given priority in girls’ schools in the state. He said in a media statement, “I have sought data on male teachers from all girls and the decision will be implemented only if we have required number. After talking to teachers’ organisations, we will prepare a road-map and formulate a policy to appoint more and more female teachers at girls schools, so that no problem arises for girl students in the time to come.”

Former UNICEF policy planner KB Kothari told Times of India that the state has neither diagnosed the problem of eve teasing nor has any proper treatment been done. He further added that “removing male teachers below 50 from 1019 girls school is an easy achievable task.”

Dotasara also clarified that the decision doesn’t intend to portray that teachers below 50 aren’t working properly. But the government is working to see that no further mishaps takes place with the students.
